Kawempe Community Development Programme (KCDP)
|
|
Oasis Uganda's initial focus was on supporting children and families at risk, with particular emphasis on the girl child through the establishment of Bambejja, an education and holistic care programme for vulnerable girls at risk of becoming street children in Kawempe, Kampala. Net2Work, an IT and Job skills programme, began in 2003, serving out school youths in Kawempe, a short distance from Bambejja centre.
Oasis Uganda Uganda's projects in Kampala have been re-organised to operate under the Kawempe Community Development Programme (KCDP - formally Bambejja), at the Oasis Community House of Hope, with three major departments which are;
- Advocacy, Health and Well-being
Education
The Education department is designed to support vulnerable school age girls under 18 years living in the catchment areas of Kawempe Division, who are living in extremely deprived home situations. Many of these children have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS and are living with grand parents or relatives who are unable to provide adequate care and support.
It gives the girls an opportunity to go to school, as well as receive counselling, support in their school work, health and hygiene trainings, life skills training and other key support services. Each child is encouraged to mane healthy life choices and are equipped with skills and self esteem so that they can positively contribute to their community in future.
