About Net2Work
Net2Work Uganda runs a successful and popular 3-month full-time training course in IT and job skills for 25 young people aged 16-24. Most have dropped out of education early because of poverty, caused by the death of parent(s) or due to lack of employment. To date, over 500 students have completed the course and graduated from the National Academy.
In addition to the above Net2Work also provides internet café services and commercial computer classes at affordable costs for local people who would find it difficult to access computer training and services in the city centre.
Reaching out to the most difficult parts of Uganda
Northern Uganda has suffered terribly as a result of a 20-year civil war between a rebel army and the Government army forces. Around 1.6 million people have been displaced from their homes and forced to live in crowded camps with very poor facilities and little opportunity for education or employment. One of the most harrowing facts about this war is that children as young as 7 or 8 have been abducted by rebels and forced to become soldiers or sex slaves. As a result, these children have missed out on vital years of education as well as enduring terrible trauma.
Thankfully, the war appears to be coming to an end and peace talks are in progress but there are many lives that need to be rebuilt. Net2Work, in partnership with World Vision, is currently providing vital IT and jobs kills training to ex-child soldiers and other war-affected youth so that they can make progress in their education and learn skills which will help them find employment. These 2 ‘eAcademies’, in Gulu and Pader, are positively impacting the lives of hundreds of students, giving them hope for a better future.
