Bambejja Skills Training Project

‘A woman trained is a nation saved ...’

Many young women in Uganda have stopped their education due to

  • unplanned pregnancies,
  • poverty
  • negative attitudes of their guardians who often do not see the value in education

The Bambejja Skills Training Project works with such disadvantaged young women aged 16-21 years living in extremely deprived conditions, without the support of a parent or guardian.  We equip them with skills and training they need to be able to lead productive and independent lives in their community.

The course includes practical and theoretical training(see below), a work placement in the community as well as emotional support and counselling.

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Job skills
  • Life skills
  • Health and hygiene
  • Motherhood
  • Practical money management
  • Vocational training including cookery, tailoring, handicrafts and hairdressing

Crèche facilities are provided for the babies so the mothers can concentrate on their learning. Over 60% of our graduates manage to find jobs or start their own business within 3 months of completing their training, in comparison to a 68% unemployment rate.

We are very grateful for everyone who supports and partners with us in bringing a difference in the young women's lives.
